Kaiser Summary

Kaiser Permanente, commonly known as “Kaiser”, is different from typical insurance carriers. It’s actually an integrated managed care consortium (say that five times fast). It operates two unique sides: the Kaiser Foundation Health Plans and the Permanente Medical Groups.

Kaiser Permanente is the largest managed care organization in the United States. It differs from other insurers because it’s a nonprofit organization that offers Medicare Advantage plans along with other types of health plans. Kaiser has its own network of providers and hospitals, so members can get all their care from a Kaiser doctor, hospital, or office.

Note, Kaiser plans are only available in the following states:

  • California
  • Colorado
  • Georgia
  • Hawaii
  • Maryland
  • Oregon
  • Virginia
  • Washington
  • Washington, DC

Pros

  • Offers Multiple 5-star Plans
  • Positive Customer Reviews
  • High Emphasis on Quality Service and Care

Considerations

  • Only Available in 9 States
  • Only Sells HMO Plans Within Kaiser’s Network

Overview

$0 Premiums

Many of Kaiser’s plans come with a $0 premium option. You’ll still want to compare Kaiser plans (if you have more than one option in your area) to learn more about the benefits and differences between them, but if you’re looking for affordable monthly payments, Kaiser has it.

5-star Medicare Advantage Plans

Getting a 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is no easy feat, and Kaiser has done it multiple times. It’s a testament to Kaiser’s commitment to patient safety and care.

Easy-to-understand Online Quotes

If you live in an area with a Kaiser plan, you’ll get plan summaries and quotes quickly. All you need to do is enter your zip code to see a list of your available plans and premiums. From there, you can click through to see more details. Once you decide on a plan, you can fill out the enrollment application online, which they say takes about 20 minutes to complete.

Helpful Healthcare Articles

Because Kaiser is a full-service insurance provider, they have lots of health and insurance-related information on their site. Whether you’re looking for Medicare-related education or broad wellness topics, Kaiser has a library of content to browse.
